2015 Goals and Plans (of the House-related Variety)

Wow. 2015. That didn’t take very long to happen. Here is where there is supposed to be some navel-gazing type stuff about the past year and the passage of time and all that, but I can’t really think of anything much to say about it. Things were crazy and loud and busy and pretty fabulous around here in 2014. I hope for more chaos and awesomeness in 2015. That and a finished master bathroom.

In fact I could probably just stop right there with the list: 1. finish master bath 2. have awesome year.

But that wouldn’t make for a very riveting blog post, nor would it offer much motivation when we finally finish the master bath.

I mentioned yesterday that I’m not going to follow the same format for this list as last year….i.e. it’s not going to be 15 Goals for 2015. I’m keeping it to a shorter list but with some fairly big projects that will have lots of little projects tucked inside. There’s also a lot of finishing what we’ve already started going on here.

1. Finish the Master Bathroom:

As detailed yesterday, we did a lot in here in 2014, but there’s still plenty more to do. Like:

*paint the cabinets

*get new fixtures

*curtains or blinds for the windows

*finish painting walls and trim

*build shelves over tub?

*maybe another rug?

2. Finish the Basement:

Our basement movie/game room is definitely one of my favorite things we did in 2014, but now I want to make sure we keep things going and don’t let the rest of it go the way of the master bath makeover and drag on for years. We still need to:

*build some game storage

*finish game table/chairs (more on this next week!)

*touch up paint

*install baseboards

*do something with the windows

….I think we’ve decided to live with the “industrial look” unfinished ceiling for now. I’m not sure what we want to do with it long term, and I don’t want to put a lot of money and time into something we might not be happy with for long.

3. Big Garage Clean-out/Organization:

Big fun, right? But it needs to be done. Goal is to have a workshop in half of the garage and room to actually park a car in the other half. The workshop area used to be in the part of the basement that we’re now using for movies and games. I’m not at all concerned with aesthetics for this stage of things (maybe someday when the whole inside of the house is finished. hahahahahaha).

4. Open shelving in Kitchen:

Carried over from last year’s list

5. Expand/Fence in Garden Area:

Also carried over from last year’s list. We ALMOST got this done last year, so I bet we can actually do it this year.

6. Work on the Den:

The poor den has been neglected for far too long. I’ll talk more about this next week, but I’m hoping we’ll finally be able to completely overhaul this room this year.

….and that’s all I’ve got! I think it’s plenty to keep us busy and focused, but will also give us time and flexibility to work on other things as the mood strikes.

  1. I wish I could reasonably aim to aim that magnitude of things done! I’m anxious to see how they pan out.

  2. These are all great goals – I can’t wait to see everything you do this year. You had an amazing year in 2014 – loved seeing all your projects.
