Halloween House Tours and 50 Questions

Two things today (or maybe 51 things). First off, an announcement: next week, on Monday, October 20, I’ll be doing a Halloween House Tour along with these other bloggers:

halloween house tours - option 2

I’ve never done a holiday/seasonal house tour post before, and Halloween seemed like a good place to start. Because it’s fun and there are gold snakes. Well, I have gold snakes. And some other things you haven’t seen yet, because I’ve been keeping them secrets. And I have no idea what everyone else has, but I’m excited to find out!

And, while I’m here….Julia from Cuckoo4Design tagged me to answer these fifty questions. Which is an awful lot of questions, but I’m going to do it anyway because Julia asked so nicely :).
1. What are you wearing?
Black pants and a black t-shirt. Like a beatnik. Or a ninja.

2. Ever been in love?
Well, yes.

3. Ever have a terrible break-up?
No, not really.

4. How tall are you?
5’3″

5. How much do you weigh?
ha. no thank you.

6. Any tattoos?
No. I might if I could think of one I really wanted.

7. Any piercings?
My ears, but I haven’t worn earrings in forever.

8. OTP (One true pair, favorite fictional couple?)
Umm, Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett? That’s so overdone, isn’t it? Can’t be helped.

9. Favorite Show?

Current? Probably The Good Wife, so far this year. Also, I’ll watch new episodes of Nashville the second they hit Hulu, but I think it’s a pretty ridiculous show.

10. Favorite Bands?
Jason Isbell’s my current favorite. He’s not a band. But, you know, he has one. Other favorites from Abe’s Sleepy Mix, which is about all I listen to lately are the Decemberists, The Lumineers, the Nashville soundtrack, REM, The Civil Wars, Dan Zanes, and Lucinda Williams.

11. Something you miss?
New episodes of Lost to watch every week.

12. Favorite Song?

Oh. I don’t think I have a favorite song. I really like Pancho and Lefty.

13. How old are you?
39

14. Zodiac sign?
Aries. My favorite part of reading everyone’s answers thus far has been finding out their signs. Although I guess I could have just asked.
15. Favorite Quality in a Partner?

Open to suggestion. That’s my joke answer. Dave is very open to suggestion. Which is good because I have so many important things to suggest.

16. Favorite Quote?

You know, I used to write a zine in high school, and I had a whole page of quotes at the beginning of every issue. So I should know this. But I’m coming up blank.

17. Favorite Actor?
I’ll watch David Tennant or Adam Scott in pretty much anything

18. Favorite Color?
blue

19. Loud music or soft?
I do not like loud music.

20. Where do you go when you are sad?
Somewhere where kids are not. So, umm, the bathroom? Or a walk.

21. How long does it take you to shower?
I would like to always have a 20 minute shower, but usually more like 10.

22. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
eh, 15 minutes? Unless I’m taking one of those long showers.

23. Ever been in a physical fight?
I think one time with a neighbor kid when I was 10ish? And, you know, my brother occasionally.

24. Turn on?
Mathletes

25. Turn-off?
no sense of irony

26. The reason I started blogging?
I think mostly because we had lots to do in this house, and I knew it would be more fun/we’d be more likely to actually do things if I was documenting.

27. Fears?
Heights, airplanes, rabies, enclosed spaces, death (my own and other people’s), tigers….yeah, pretty much all the fears.

28. Last thing that made you cry?
I think it was when the status update about Sleighbelle getting adopted.

29. Last time you said you loved someone?
oh, a kid or a husband sometime today. or could have been a dog. Actually, I think I just told Fiesta and Rory, “I love you both,” when they were being needy a little while ago.

30. Meaning behind the name of your blog
I live in a boxy colonial. I know you were expecting something a lot more metaphorical.

31. Last book you read?
I just finished reading The Graveyard Book to the kids

32. Book you are currently reading?
I started Longbourn awhile back, but I haven’t made it very far. And a friend just published a pair of P.I. Short Stories that I managed to read the first quarter of or so while I pushed Abe on the swing the other day. It’s short and a page-turner so far, so I’m determined to actually finish it! Also the kids and I are reading Moby Dick. Listening to it, actually. But that will take at least the rest of this school year to finish. I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Moby Dick is pretty long. They’re not even on the ship yet. (those are affiliate links, by the way. why not? Not to Moby Dick. It’s in the public domain. You don’t need to pay for it).

33. Last show you watched?
The Good Wife

34. Last person you talked to?
Milo

35. The relationship between you and the person you just texted?
we’re married

36. Favorite food?
hmm…pizza I guess?

37. Place you want to visit?
Tokyo Disneyland. Really, I haven’t been many places, relatively speaking, so lots of places, but I’m especially intrigued by Tokyo Disneyland

39. Do you have a crush?
I really wish I could afford to buy my and the kids’ whole wardrobe from Boden and MiniBoden. Does that count?

40. Last time you kissed someone?
I don’t remember. Hold on…I’ll go kiss Milo. He’s right over there……okay, Milo.

41. Last time you were insulted?
Well, in the South we mostly just insult people behind their backs, so I probably don’t know about the last time.

42. Favorite flavor of sweet?
you mean what flavor WITH my chocolate? Because obviously chocolate, right? Mint. or peanut butter. or maybe salted caramel.

43. What instruments do you play?
I do not.

44. Favorite piece of jewelry?
I’m not much for jewelry, but I have a really pretty onyx ring from my great grandmother that I like a lot.

45. Last sport you played?
Does hiking count? Sure it does. hiking.

46. Last song you sang?
ha. Ari, and Abe, and I all sang Let It Go when we were walking home from getting pizza tonight.

47. Favorite chat up line?
I am so put off by the phrase “chat up line” that I’m relatively certain I don’t have a favorite.

48. Have you ever used it?
n/a

49. Last time you hung out with anyone?
Hung out with is kind of vague. Besides the kids and Dave? how long does it need to be to count as hanging out? Maybe with friends at the park last week? Last extended (more than half an hour?) period of hanging out with non-immediate family. I should do more of that, though. The hanging out.

50. Who should answer these questions next?

Goodness, I don’t know! If you want to answer these questions, then YOU should answer them next. But if I must…..umm, I tag…..KIM! From Newly Woodwards. I want to know her sign, and this is way easier than just asking her ;).

Halloween House Tours and 50 Questions — 8 Comments

  1. Ha ha… loved this Gretchen. Number 30 and 47 made me laugh out loud.I also agree with about the irony. And add to that humor. If someone does not have humor, I can’t be friends with them. I once talked to someone who was completely void of and incapable of understanding humor. The longest three minutes of my life.

Like all human bloggers, I love comments :)
