It’s spring! More precisely, it’s almost spring, and it’s FREEZING outside (although not actually snowing like in much of the country). But it is, at any rate, that time of year when even lovers of winter like myself start to look forward to warmer weather and are eager for an excuse to fill in the decor gaps left behind when Christmas stuff was put away back in January.
To that end, I’m joining in with a bunch of other bloggers to share some spring decor in the Color Loving Spring Home Tour, hosted by Carrie over at Lovely, Etc. Stick around to the end of the post and you’ll find links to all the other blogs, chock full of colorful, warm-weather-is-almost-here inspiration.
Much of my house is a bit of a disaster at the moment, owing to how Milo and Gus’s bedroom is completely torn apart, waiting for new floors to go in, so it was nice to spend some time over the weekend at least getting a couple of spaces pulled together (while Dave was upstairs painting. Thanks, Dave!)
The copper shelves in the kitchen have been looking neglected ever since we took Christmas stuff off of them, so I filled in the gaps with some…stuff that I like. Which is pretty much my decorating style, after all.
There are a couple of things on here that I’ve had forever that have never had a place to hang out before (I mean, other than stuffed inside a drawer or whatever). Like that souvenir decanter shaped like Ohio. Fun! Or that Disney World vintage souvenir plate. We have a Disney trip planned for fall, so I decided it should be out to get us all excited:
Abe made that little string art heart at his homeschool group’s Valentine’s party, and it’s one preschool art project I haven’t plotted to secretly throw away:
I raided Target for some spring stuff for the table and was delighted to find this bunny planter for $3! Even though she’s so fancy that she has gold ears!
I had to rip apart an Ikea faux plant to get that grassy stuff to go in it. Succulent is also a (fake) Target find as are the (real) tulips.
So pretty much every picture of my kitchen on my blog is like this one, with the refrigerator carefully cropped out:
But as a special spring treat for you, here’s the uncropped kitchen, complete with our white refrigerator that refuses to die, in all it’s magneted glory (probably up until now people assumed we didn’t have a refrigerator at all, like how there was no toilet in the Brady Bunch kids’ bathroom):
The other space that got the spring treatment is our covered porch. We finished the porch back in the fall, just in time to leave it all cold and neglected through the winter. I dusted everything down (and gave the floors a much, MUCH needed mopping to get rid of the muddy dog and kid footprints) and set the table to remind us of the outside dinners to come this year. And then shivered taking the pictures in the cold rain:
I’ve been collecting blue and white transferware dinner plates from thrift stores for years now, and I’m glad to finally have a place to keep and use them.
The wicker chargers are also thrifted, as is this little pitcher:
And a couple more fake plants and another tulip from Target.
And that’s what I’ve got to show you, but don’t stop here! Spend some time checking out the other blogs and dreaming of warmer weather….

i love your simple touches, especially that gold eared sexy bunny! and love your porch dining area, if only it would be warm enough to enjoy! OVER WINTER.
The vintage Disney plate is awesome!
It’s been in my basement for FOREVER
Stuff That You Like is the best decorating style evahl!
That porch looks so chilly–something about the light, or else the fact that it’s 43º and windy here and I just came inside to lunch. (In February we had highs in the seventies–come on, I want to plant things!)
It WAS cold. And rainy. Cold and rainy is one of my favorite kinds of weather when I can stay inside all day, but not so much when I have to venture out.
What pretty open shelving and love how you have them styled!
Thank you!
So many beautiful, springy pops of colour, Gretchen! Love it!!
Love all of your pretty spring touches but the preschool art is the best. So adorable, and it’s green!
Yes–good choice, Abe! 🙂
Love this tour! Your porch is so cheery- looks like a fun place to hang out! I’m in North Georgia too, so not far from you, and can’t WAIT for this cold weather to pass us by so we can actually enjoy our outdoor spaces 🙂
Thank you! Can’t wait to get out there more, but it looks like the cold is set to return in the next couple of days 🙁
Oh wow I LOVE the pattern and design on that rug on your porch!!
Thank you! I don’t know how long it’s going to hold up in the elements out there, but we’re enjoying it for now at least 🙂
Very pretty touches of spring, Gretchen! Love it!
Thank you!
I love all of your thrifted treasures and I feel so honored that we got to see the fridge. 🙂 Thanks for joining in the tour!
Thank you for hosting!
I love how you mixed your chairs up! I want to do that, but haven’t figured it out yet. Help!! Happy Spring!!
Thanks! The chair mixing in this case was almost an accident–I didn’t want to spend money buying new chairs or time painting ones I had, so I just went with what was already sitting around and mixed a couple of different sets (the wicker chair I did buy at the thrift store just for this table).
I just love all of your special treasures and how you have them displayed. And I spied some amazing Target deals – that bunny!! I’m close to Atlanta so I feel you on all this rain and cold – Come on spring!!
Thanks! two days of warm now, but it looks like we’re right back to cold by the end of the week 🙁
Love how your porch is set up! I wish we had a covered porch to enjoy in warm weather!
Thanks! It was screened in when we bought it, but the screen was in bad shape, so we tore it all down and left it as an open air covered porch instead.
So pretty! I love how you used your transferware plates on the porch. Everything about that porch makes me what spring to be here!
Love your blue and white bowls on the shelves and the dishes outside!! And what a cute bunny planter! Lovely tour!
Thank you!
I love the blue transferware! It’s perfect on your porch! Everything looks beautiful!
Thank you!
