Multitasking!
It’s that magical time of year when I look back at last year’s list of house related plans, note that we didn’t get most of them done, and then promptly make another unrealistic of things we won’t get done for the new year!
First, let’s look back on the things we did get done last year:
We did finish the dining room!
Although we do still need to paint the dining room table. So maybe that can go on this year’s list!
And we finished the kids’ bathroom, even though it was way down on the plans list.
And even further down on the list was dealing with our sad front yard. So we did deal with this, and it turned out be a really popular post:
Said popular post was called, “When People with no idea what they’re doing reseed a lawn,” and…our lawn isn’t looking so hot at the moment. Now, the grass is supposed to go dormant, so we’ll have to wait until spring to really know what we’re dealing with, but I suspect it’s going to need some more help this year. It’s possible we need to deal with some grubs, for example. We’ll see. But it stayed green all summer, anyway!
But I also mentioned new windows and floors, the foyer, the upstairs hallway and stairway, and the laundry room, and those things….have not been accomplished. Oh well!
So what about 2020? Well, let’s make an aspirational list and see where it takes us, shall we?
Upstairs hallway/stairway again: yeah. we should do this!
Master bedroom: the sleeping half of the master bedroom is fine for the most part (overdue for some updates, but what isn’t?):
…but then we have this whole huge area with nothing going on in it (other than laundry storage and whatnot). It’s technically set up as an office:
But it rarely actually gets used as an office. Now that the kids are older, what we could really use up there is a sitting room/tv room type area where Dave and I can hang out when the big kids are up late and we want to go watch TV by ourselves or whatever. The days of sending the kids upstairs at 8 and having the rest of the house to ourselves are over! I’ve barely started thinking about this yet…I’d like a table/desk type thing still that’s big enough for both of us to sit at, and some sort of comfy seating, and a place for a TV. So I’ll have to think about it more. And figure out where my laundry is going to live when my plan comes together.
Floors and Windows: still. again. If we can find some big chunks of money to spend on the house, this is where it needs to go.
Organize and Declutter! We’ll have been in this house eight years this May, and…it shows. Especially in the basement and garage.
I’m going to go ahead and stop right there, because I have a feeling all that will keep us plenty busy.
And here are a few Christmas pictures, since I didn’t do a separate post about that this year:
First, Abe and Santa:
And then a couple from Christmas morning. Glad to have all these boys together again for a little while (Ari’s still on break right now; he heads back to college in less than two weeks, though):
Still love the way your bedroom office looks, but I can see why you’d want to turn it into an adult media area! What are you planning to do with the floors? Ony hinted yesterday that he might be willing to diy wood floors here (he had said never again!) 😀
I admire your aspirations. My list for this year is more like “Ummm…do stuff.”
I love your ideas for the master bedroom. It is so true, those children of ours grow older and take over. Having a nice “quiet/retreat” of your own while they learn to entertain is perfect.
