A Bit of Halloween

Just a very quick post to show off my Halloween decorating, because, hey! I decorated for Halloween a little and it’s not like anyone’s coming over to the house lately to look at it, right? Right.

The only thing I bought new this year is also THE BEST PURCHASE I’VE EVER MADE. Well. Anyway, I’m excited about it:

I got these guys on Amazon (affiliate link) for $45, but apparently they’ve realized how great they are since then, because now they’re $65. But they bring ONE MILLION DOLLARS worth of joy, so…your call.

There’s a very scary story that goes with my scary ghosts. The other day it was supposed to rain, and Dave texted me and said I should deflate the ghosts and put them in the garage for this event. I argued that they are supposed to be outside in the elements and that it’s impractical to move them for rain. “What are we going to do in a few years when we have a hundred Halloween inflatables?” I asked, for this is my plan. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” Dave said.

He never really managed to convince me to move them for rain, but we did have to move them so he could mow the lawn. And then when we put them back in the yard, a terrible thing happened: they wouldn’t fully inflate anymore.

I was heartbroken. I searched in vain for a leak somewhere or maybe something wrong with the fan, but everything looked fine. I thought maybe the ghosts were not quite as much of a bargain as I had thought.

But then! Abe remembered that there is a zipper at the bottom of at least one of the ghosts. And then remembered that I had unzipped it when I moved them to drain out the water that had gotten in because I refused to move them when it rained. And I had forgotten to zip it back up! PHEW! They are fine now.

Maybe you’re wondering if they have fun lights that flash on and off in a spooky way? Yes! They do!

Okay, so what else? Mostly I just pulled out the box of Halloween stuff from the basement and spookified the copper shelves in the kitchen and the dresser in the foyer (following the techniques laid out for you in my Seasonal Decorating for the Perpetually Overwhelmed post from last Halloween):

Confession: this involved first putting away a couple of Christmas themed things that were still hanging around from last year. It’s been a weird year, okay?

The foyer has kind of a creepy naturalist thing going on:

That hawk feather? Is pretty and all, but it also came from an actual hawk that was flying over our yard terrifying our chickens. So far it has not actually tried to take any chickens, though. Fingers crossed. Anyway, thanks for the nice feather, hawk. Now go away!

And that’s all I’ve got! It felt very nice to do a bit of holiday decorating, though. And now I just need to remember to look for clearance inflatables post-Halloween so that my yard can be totally full of them next year!

  1. I have been waiting for this. Not because it will inspire me to decorate for Halloween, because I never do, but because I like it when other people do.

Like all human bloggers, I love comments :)
