Looking Back at 2014: 10 Favorite Projects

When is Thanksgiving next year? Has anyone checked? Because it was far too late this year, and I feel like the Christmas season got all compressed in an unpleasant way, causing me to feel rushed while it was happening, and emotionally overwhelmed when it was over. I took the ornaments off the tree today and nearly had a breakdown looking at all the ones the kids made when they were little. Stupid nostalgia-evoking Christmas. Abe is going to grow up and leave in only SIXTEEN MORE YEARS!

Ahem.

Anyway, where was I?

Right, so 2014 is almost over. It was a really great year for me, blogging wise and getting stuff done in the house wise. Tomorrow I’ll take a look  back at the goal list we made at the beginning of the year and see how that all went down. But some of my favorite projects weren’t even on that list, so today I’m going to recap some of those, so that I can feel productive and so that those of you who are newer around here can get a quick 2014 highlights tour.

I thought about doing my most viewed posts, but, really, those tend to be whatever got pinned the most. And the stuff that gets pinned the most isn’t necessarily the best. People like to pin things that quick and easy to reproduce, generally speaking, I’ve found. I’m all for quick and easy projects, believe me, but sometimes the things we agonize over and spend forever on get lost in the shuffle on Pinterest.

But just for fun, here’s a list of my top 10 most viewed posts published this year (incidentally, as I’m writing this, I have no clue how much this list and my own list are going to overlap, because I’ve neither looked at what my top 10 most viewed posts are nor decided which my 10 favorites are. I’m just crazy impulsive like that):

10. Bird and Octopus and Dog Themed Master Bedroom Tour

9. Undisgusting Painted Basement Floor

8. How to Have a Pretty Sofa While Also Having Dogs, Cats, and Kids

7. DIY Honeycomb Hexagon Shelves

6. DIY Swing Set Part 1: What We Did for Spring Break

5. Special Guest House: My Mom’s

4. DIY Window Plant Shelves

3. Master Bath Tile Revealed At Last! And Lessons Learned from our First Time Tiling

2. Hanging Ikea Ekorre Chairs

1. DIY Harry Potter Wands

And now here are my top 10 favorite posts/projects, in no particular order (I had a really hard time picking. It’s like trying to pick my favorite child….if I had over a hundred children):

1. Our Finished Master Bedroom

2. Milo and August’s Forest Room

3. Hexagon Shelves

4. Basement Movie and Game Room

5. Slate Tile in Master Bathroom

6. Miss Havisham’s Wedding Feast for Halloween

7. Milo’s Harry Potter Party (Part 1 and Part 2)

8. Swing Set

9. Abe’s Backyard Play Kitchen

10. Squirrel Chairs

Looking Back at 2014: 10 Favorite Projects — 9 Comments

  1. It is so true that the big stuff I think/ponder/stress over typically gets lost in Pinterest world — but the little stuff does great. I personally love your dining room chairs, the tile in your bathroom and that corner of your Master Bedroom with the vintage chair and green lamp!!

  2. Two major points here:
1- Your master bedroom confirms that I DO want to paint my whole room navy blue, and not just one wall.
2- Your basement actually looks more like a bright New York City loft with tons of natural light, not a basement. Let’s be honest, THAT is what Chandler and Joey’s apartment should have looked like.

    • Come on over for a movie party! Not tonight, though, it’s really cold down there right now. For a Georgia basement anyway 😉

  3. 16 more years!!! Say it aint so!! I guess time for another one. You need more nostalgic Christmas decor anyway. 🙂

Like all human bloggers, I love comments :)
