I know it’s been very slow going around here with the posts, but we have been doing some stuff–so I thought I’d check in with some updates despite the absence of anything….finished.
For example: remember my brand new bathroom that I did a big reveal about a few weeks ago? I changed something in there already:
Can you spot the change? The picture that’s now hanging over the counter used to be on the far wall where the dog is right now. That dog was in my mom’s house awhile back, then she gave it to me when she changed some things around. But then I didn’t really have anywhere to put it, so I hung it on a nail that just happened to be there in my perpetually unfinished dining room, and every time my mom came over she would complain about how it was too low, and I was always like, “well, it’s not staying there.” And that’s how things went. For a long time.
Then it finally occurred to me that the colors in it would go really well with the new paint in the bathroom. So there you go. Enjoy your new home, doggy!
And then I did a tiny bit more Christmas decorating in the foyer. It’s going to be a minimalist Christmas around here, decor-wise. I decided today not to bring up the tall tree that usually goes in our sunroom (after consulting with the kids, who are fine with it). So we have our one real tree in the den and that may be it. (Well, Abe has his tiny tree in his room, too. And Milo and Gus have their tree, but it’s not decorated yet. I need to ask Ari if he wants to bring his tree up).
But the tiny bit of Christmas decorating is not really why I’m showing you this picture. It’s more about what’s NOT in the picture.
Which is squirrels.
That’s right! The silver sharpie squirrels have ended their long residence in the foyer. I mean, technically they’re still there, but they’re under about half a dozen layers of heavy duty primer and white paint. The whole foyer is white now, in fact: Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (same as our master bathroom). Soon the dining room and the library will also be painted. It’s a very exciting time around here. Except for how we can’t find time to finish painting.
Anyway, though, that’s where things are right now. I have a lot of other plans for the dining room, so I’m hoping to have more to show you soon!
Also, I didn’t know that the new version of WordPress came with this disconcertingly DIFFERENT new editor until it was too late, so writing this post has been really weird for me. I hope it looks normal to you. And that I can figure out how to publish it (it just autocorrected to “punish it” and maybe that, too).
New WordPress editor. That explains why the first three times I tried to see this it wouldn’t load. (The second time the contents of the email wasn’t even there, which seems a bit grabby for an editor.)
I looked at the foyer and knew something was missing, but I didn’t even remember the squirrels. Which just shows you can’t trust love, or something, because I loved the squirrels. The loon? egret? whatever? is a worthy replacement for them.
oh no! That actually might be my fault–I messed up and meant to schedule the post for the next morning, but did it for the morning that had already happened instead, so maybe it got confused. There’s already ANOTHER wordpress update, I just noticed, so maybe that will fix any problems with the one I just installed? I really don’t know; I just push buttons and hope for the best!
