If you want to make my thirteen year old, Gus, really mad just go ahead and call American bison “buffalo.” I dare you. He really doesn’t like it. And so you will never hear me refer to the new tapestry in my dining room as a buffalo tapestry. Because that would be INCORRECT. (We have a CD of “Songs for Junior Rangers” (highly recommended!) that drives this point home: “Humps, hooves, and horns/Bison, bison/humps, hooves, and horns/That ain’t no buffalo”)

Anyway. Behold!

This isn’t really a big reveal if you’re a regular reader, since it was also in my post about my winter table a couple of weeks ago. But I am very much in love with it plus my new light fixture, so they get their very own post today. I first saw these bisons when Cassie from CassieBustamante.com posted them as a Thrift Score Thursday find a couple of years ago (RIP Thrift Score Thursday; I still miss you!).

And I never forgot about them.

Cassie moved recently and the bison tapestry was among the things she sold when she was getting ready to move. So I bought it! For I have always loved it. And also I have long struggled with what to fill up the big old wall behind my dining room buffet with. A big old wall loves a big old bison tapestry.

We bought a brass rod and rings from Target to hang it with. I argued Dave into an extra few dollars for the brass over a cheaper black one because it’s prettier (and echoes the brass light fixture).

Speaking of the light fixture:

I love this thing. I got it on All Modern, but it doesn’t appear to be available on there right now. Here it is on Amazon, but it’s about $100 more as of this writing than I paid for it (I had a discount code). Even at the undiscounted Amazon price, it’s cheaper than some of the other options I was considering, and I really love the way it looks in this room. The scale is great, and I like that is has mid century vibe without being a straight up sputnik. Bonus: it was easy to install. (Not sponsored, btw!)

So that’s where we are as far as dining room progress. Paint (White Dove by Benjamin Moore), bisons, and light. Still to do: more stuff on the walls, curtains, repaint that table.

Oh! I have made a bit of progress on the wall front. My mom found this painting at the thrift store, and I promptly stole it from her (my mom is the former owner of A Classy Flea; she retired from that gig last summer, but couldn’t stay away too long. She and my aunt just took a space at Queen of Hearts, so stop by and see what they have if you’re local to the Atlanta area. You can’t get this lady painting, though, because I already stole it):

She has the same retro vibe going on (and some of the same colors) as my bisons. I’m collecting things that might end up in the finished room:
