Happy New Year!

Hey, there was another Christmas! I never got around to doing a full house tour, even though I took some pictures. So here are a couple of the pictures:

Christmas in the den the fattest Christmas tree we could find siamese cat on ottoman copper shelves decorated for Christmas

As you can see, my greatest seasonal accomplishment was securing the world’s fattest Christmas tree for the bay window in the den. When we were at the nursery picking it out, a woman working there overheard us talking about wanting a fat tree and excitedly showed us the fattest tree they had. We had actually already spotted it, but felt they were cheating a bit putting it with the 7-8′ trees instead of the 6-7′ trees and hadn’t been sure we wanted to pay the premium. But I guess they have to chargeĀ somethingĀ extra when a tree is as wide as it is tall.

Christmas itself was fairly quiet. We got together with family more this year than last year so that was nice. And I continued our new tradition of taking pictures by our travel Christmas tree in the room with better light:

First we tried to get a few with all 3 dogs in them, and those were a little less successful:

And here’s a glimpse into Christmas exploding all over the den. I guess Santa didn’t care much about any of my pictures being in focus, or he wouldn’t have brought those bouncy things:

And while I’m throwing everything Christmas into this post, here’s Abe with Santa a few weeks before Christmas:

Abe and Santa

I keep thinking every year might be our last year with a kid who’s still into the Santa thing, but Abe keeps giving us one more year. This year he was feeling too shy to actually tell Santa what he wanted in person, so he wrote a postcard later and put it in our mailbox. Our mail carrier picked it up and left this note:

"hello Abe. I will deliver letter to Santa!"

Then the next day he came back after his regular rounds to hand deliver a letter from Santa! (It was a form letter. Apparently the post office keeps such Santa letters around). Our mail service has been…inconsistent at best over the past couple of years, but I was super impressed with this! Thanks, mail carrier–very cool!

So there’s my quick Christmas recap post! I don’t know if I want to do a New Year’s goals/looking back at what we did last year sort of post, because house projects were a little sparse and I fear it would be discouraging. I don’t want to discourage myself! I actually have a few projects that I’ve been meaning to post about for FOREVER, so maybe my main goal should just be to blog more often. And we do have some house related plans for this year, so…we’ll just see what happens!

I leave you with a picture of the chickens getting their Christmas cauliflower:
