Foster Kittens for Christmas

I can’t think of a better way to finally update the blog than with pictures of the most adorable kittens in the world!

(I went to a blogging conference once where someone said that if you stop blogging for awhile and come back, you shouldn’t say anything about it. But I guess we can already tell from the fact that I haven’t blogged here in over a year that I am not good at following the rules of blogging! So we’ll see what happens here, but a reminder that I’m better these days at keeping up the travel blog, if you miss me).

We haven’t fostered for awhile, mostly because we’ve been traveling so much the past few years, but on Thanksgiving morning these guys popped up in my inbox, needing a place to stay until after Christmas, and we had no trips planned until after they needed to leave. So WHY NOT?!

They were really interested in the clicking sound my camera makes, which is how it was possible to get pictures of them sitting fairly still. I guess that’s probably why they still have digital cameras make that sound. Ari discovered the other day that you can change the sound on my camera. Weird. Anyway.

These kittens come from Road Trip Home Animal Rescue. They rescue dogs and cats from local shelters and place them in foster homes for a short time until they’re ready to go on transports to partner shelters in the northeast, where there are stricter spay/neuter laws and fewer adoptable animals in shelters, so that these guys will find permanent homes very quickly. If you’re local to metro Atlanta and would like to do short term fostering (usually a few weeks), check them out.

I believe the last time we fostered with them was also a Christmas kitten, named Tiki. I remember because I have a picture of him climbing my Christmas tree that still pops up in my Facebook memories every year. I also remember because I was supposed to get two kittens so they could entertain each other, but then something or other happened and I ended up with one, lone, bored and thus destructive little kitten. So I was quick to specify that we could take a pair of kittens this time around.

They are around seven weeks old, and they’re having a great time at the moment with the run of our bedroom. Eventually we’ll probably incorporate them into the larger household, which will, no doubt, be chaos. So far mostly only Fergus the anxious terrier has met them, because he was very curious about them and wouldn’t stop whining at the bedroom door until we let him come in and say hello.

The spotty kitty is named Clover:

She is the more active and less cuddly of the pair, but she’s still a sweet girl with a squeaky little meow.

And then there’s calico Apple Blossom, who has the loudest purr ever and likes to perch on our shoulders.

Once they’re bored with the camera clicking, here’s what taking pictures of them is like:

So there you have it! Getting the Christmas season rolling with kittens!
